The Rubens Hotel is nothing short than impressive. Walking in, I was greeted, seated and given a welcome glass of Champers on arrival. What was more impressive though was that I was seated 30 mins prior to my booking. The hostess sat me in a quaint oversized couch overlooking Buckingham palace road where I was given unlimited views of the streets outside, and its passersby. It felt intimate but also somewhere where one could relax and forget things, a place of respite. The menu came out and it was nothing short of exquisite. The variety of teas was decadent and regal feeling, but as always I chose a nice earl grey. The winter wonderland menu was composed of finger sandwiches, scones and of course 4 stunning desserts. My favourite was the smoked salmon and beet finger sandwich, paired with the clotted cream and fruity scone. This experience truly made me feel as though I was able to relax and unwind from the business of London, all whilst still being in the heart of London. The service was impeccable and the experience didn’t make me feel rushed and allowed me to enjoy my time. The setting was also perfect because the visit was at a perfect time of being not too busy but also being able to enjoy the happenings around me. This experience definitely has me recommending this hotel and its afternoon tea to any newcomers to London whilst also being a stone’s throw away from London’s touristy scene: Buckingham palace.
