Sat on the corner of a busy Kings Road in Chelsea, is the prettiest French patisserie one could come across, Maitre Choux, the first and only choux pastry specialist patisserie in the world. From a distance, the perfectly lined vibrant eclairs can be spotted, each one with a combination of different mouth-watering flavours. I had the pleasure of trying five different eclair flavours, the Chouquette, and the new seasonal strawberry hot chocolate which was an incredible standout item. The drink was made with strawberry melts, beetroot powder and pitaya powder. Not only did it look ever so pretty, with the vivid pink colour and the word ‘love’ sprinkled across the top, but the taste was truly something unique. There is nothing better than a vibrant and pretty hot chocolate to contrast the dull and cold weather outside. There is also an option to add a shot of espresso to make it a mocha! Amongst the eclair flavours I sampled were ‘clementine and pecan nuts’ (made with a Corsican clementine curd and topped with crystallised roasted pecan nuts, and a white chocolate and citrus glaze), ‘coffee’ (made with roasted Italian coffee cream with espresso and dulce chocolate glaze, topped with crystallised cocoa nibs), ‘hazelnut and milk chocolate treasure’ (a milk chocolate crème patisserie with a blend of chocolates, a homemade praline, and bits of roasted almonds, coated in gold powder), ‘Persian pistachio’ (filled with a Persian pistachio mousseline cream, complemented by sprinkled ground, candied pistachios), and lastly the ‘very dark multi-origin chocolate flavour’ (made with an intense and creamy dark chocolate, a blend of some of the finest chocolates available). It is an extremely difficult task to pick out a favourite from this list as each eclair was so uniquely flavoured, however, the clementine with pecan nuts left and hazelnut and milk chocolate treasure were absolutely delightful and left us wanting more. We have to give a mention also to the lovely Enrico who hosted us, and the friendly members of staff who made this visit a lovely experience from start to finish. This visit was truly magical, and I definitely will be returning! Whether it is for cute brunch with some friends or wowing someone through gifting them some pretty eclairs, I can’t recommend this place enough. For its unique creations and flavours, just one visit is enough to make it your go-to place for the best eclairs, choux and Chouquette!
