Bite into Japan with TokyoTreat

What’s easier than planning a spontaneous trip to Japan to indulge in food and new adventure? Having a piece of Japan shipped right to your front door! That’s not to say I would turn down the opportunity to travel there - but with working part-time, attending school, COVID-19, and flights being cancelled left and right - it’s impossible to plan a trip without something going wrong. That is why a subscription box like the one I got from TokyoTreat is the perfect alternative! I had a chance to review their “Sugoi Summer” box this week, and I have to say the snacks were very refreshing, colorful, and delightfully sweet! Right away, I noticed the information booklet in the box was printed in Japan so that it can be read from right to left. On the first page, the term “Sugoi” is defined as the word for “Wow” in Japanese and each page after covers different summer-themed events happening in Japan in August. Each snack also has a page dedicated to it and the relation it has to the theme. Additionally, allergen information and whether the snack is suitable for vegetarians is included! As for the contents of the box, there’s a little bit of everything to light up the taste buds. Some of these flavors include ‘sweet’ like in the Chupa Chups strawberry cream soda, ‘chocolatey’ found in the Kit Kat Cafe au Lait minibars (my current favorite), and ‘savory’ found in the Pure Potato truffle and rock salt chips. In general, I would say that the box tends to have more candies and sweets, which could make it the perfect gift for children or sharing among friends. Price-wise, TokyoTreat subscriptions start as low as USD 32.50 per month for a 12-month long subscription. But if you want a single box to try out first, the price is USD 37.50. Overall, I was incredibly impressed with this subscription box, and I know I will find myself reaching for another one of these boxes in the near future. It is certainly kid-friendly, and the booklet included provides information on how each item is relevant to summer in Japan. Most definitely, the box will have you saying “Sugoi!”
