Get Ginned While Staying Home!

I love the concept of the Craft Gin Club, a new gin delivered to your door every month! I remember watching their pitch on Dragon’s Den a few years ago, although back then I wasn’t a gin fan. I have now seen the error of my ways! I like that it gives you to opportunity to try new gins that you wouldn’t normally come across in the shops. The box doesn’t just contain an amazing gin, they also send you tonics, garnishes and snacks which go together perfectly. Each month you also get an edition of Ginned magazine which gives you cocktail recipes for your box along with lots of other fun gin related content. This delivery was just what I needed for my first week social distancing and working from home.

This month’s gin was a limited edition Warrington’s Ludlow gin. It contained flavours I love; elderflower, chamomile and lemon verbena. I am fairly new to drinking gin so I love to discover new ones to add to my collection. I really like the bottle, its simple and sophisticated with a resealable cork in the top. The flavours are subtle and floral, perfect for spring. The first cocktail I tried was the Spring Sling; it was fruity and full of flavour. It’s best served over lots of ice in a tall glass. I really liked the Flawsome wonky fruit and sparking water, this surprised me as I am not usually a fan of rhubarb. I have already ordered some more of these so I can make this cocktail again as one is not enough! A few days later I went for the perfect G&T, this was just what I needed after a stressful day of work and it gave me an excuse to try out my new gin glasses. I don’t usually go for plain tonics with my gin as I find them too bitter, however really liked the Buzbee’s tonic which is sweetened with honey. This made the drink slightly sweeter and the added garnish of pink peppercorn and grapefruit finished it off perfectly. I also had the Lil’y O’Briens dessert chocolates, gin and chocolate go very well together. I’ve only tried the two main cocktails in the issue of Ginned magazine so far. I can’t wait to tryout the Lemon Sorrel and Spring Spritz, they sound ideal to get us in the mood for spring.  I love to bake, so I am also looking forward attempting the lemon curd and elderflower cupcakes recipe in the magazine, they sound divine! As we can’t leave our homes at the moment, cupcakes and gin in the garden sounds like the perfect weekend treat. I think the extra treats are a nice addition to the box. A few little snacks to keep you going while you enjoy your gin. I was excited to receive Stroopwafels as I love them, they remind me of my trip to the Netherlands a few years ago. The crisps were also a good shout as I always fancy them once I’ve had a few drinks. I will consider signing up to the Craft Gin Club as I think its great value for money. I would probably go for the bi-monthly option as it takes me a while to finish a bottle of gin.
