Happiness comes frozen by Ice Cream Union

I was having a rather bland day working from home, when the door buzzer went off. The intercom is very fuzzy, so I wasn’t sure what the man actually said other than “delivery”. I opened my door, grabbed the paper bag and thanked the delivery man. As he was heading back down the hall he turned, smiled and said, “Enjoy the ice cream!” In that moment I can’t describe the joy that I felt. Suddenly this sad and boring day, had turned into the best WFH day ever.

So, after I had stopped jumping up and down with glee, I opened the bag and had a look. In my bag of frozen delights were 6 different tubs of ice cream and sorbet. Classics such as Stracciatella, Dulce de Leche, Pistachio and a rather intriguing one labelled Banana Split. The two remaining tubs were Mango Sorbet and Blood Orange Sorbet. The delivery was from none other than Ice Cream Union, an artisan ice cream company based in Bermondsey. I had been meaning to check them out for some time but had never gotten around to it until now. From what I have heard, Ice Cream Union is pretty well known for the quality of their products and for their flavours. I was not disappointed at all. All of the ice creams were full of distinctive flavours and had a creamy texture. They used to supply many of London’s most prestigious restaurants, hotels, pubs and caterers. Then they decided to open their first ice cream parlour in late 2018. Now less than two years later and with the current state of the world, their 36 ice creams, 13 sorbets, and 3 vegan ice creams are available to be delivered directly to your door. The unique take on a Banana Split, tasted a bit like a banana milkshake that had been make with Stracciatella ice cream and a lashing of caramel. Definitely one for the banana lover in your life. My two favourites were Dulce de Leche (Caramel) and Pistachio. Both of these classics had full, rich flavours and were everything that I had hoped they would be. On their own, the Mango Sorbet and Blood Orange Sorbet were delicious and refreshing. In a gin float however, they were a whole other experience. Yes, I did that and would recommend it to everyone. Particularly, a gin and Blood Orange Sorbet float. You will not regret it. As you can probably tell from this review, I was very happy with everything that Ice Cream Union had to offer, and I look forward to trying more of their ice creams and sorbets in the future. Maybe next time I will try…Cornflake ice cream? Or Hot Cross Bun ice cream? I don't know about you, but I can’t wait.
