AT-HOME HIGH TEA WITH SUGARBIRD SWEETS & TEA

We just had the most delightful Sunday afternoon thanks to Sugarbird Sweets and Tea! I ordered the Afternoon Tea box thinking it'll just be a bunch of different flavored scones thrown into a box but much to my surprise, the box came brimming with scones, finger sandwiches, cheese and so many other goodies!! In fact, allow me to list you all the goodies that we received: 1 dozen full size scones of various flavors, 1/2 dozen of various flavors of shortbread (plus 2 samples of the sesame seed charcoal which was really good!), 4 brownies, 8 tea sandwiches, two types of cheese, roasted almond with truffle oil, green olives, 1 bag of loose Genmaicha with matcha tea along with disposable tea bags, clotted cream, raspberry jam and last but not least the cutest 3 tiered rose gold disposable stand to put all these goodies on.

After spending at least 5 minutes oooh-ing and aaah-ing over the contents of our box, we were ready to get our high tea on!! The first rule of a proper high tea is to always have a proper tier stand. The disposable tier-stand was so easy to assemble and most importantly, it was sturdy but oh so cute! We started placing most of the scones, shortbread and brownies but decided not to place the sandwiches on them as we wanted to keep the stand for several other uses after our high tea. Then it was time to sample our goods! There were so many delicious looking scones and shortbread but I opted for the lemon and green tea. As soon as you break a piece of the scone, you immediate get a delightful whiff of butter and lemon...oh how I LOVE the whiff of butter!! That itself set everything off to a wonderful start! The scone's texture was perfection - it had a slight hard outer shell but easy enough to break and the texture was soft on the inside. There was also some sugary glaze on top of the lemon scone but just enough sweetness to not overwhelm the overall flavor of the lemon and butter. I also love the candied lemon shavings on the scone. Overall, I would give the scone a 9 out of 10 for flavor and 10 out of 10 for presentation and texture. I then had the egg tea sandwich, which was cut into a perfect triangle. The egg sandwich was creamy and flavorful. Lastly, I tried the sesame seed charcoal shortbread. To my surprise, the flavors worked! The charcoal wasn't overpowering the overall flavor and it works well with the sesame. The texture was not as "crispy" as I would've liked but it was definitely dense and buttery. I wanted to try as much scones as I could in one seating but alas, the combination of all the goodies I had was enough to keep me very full! Needless to say, I am very happy with my Afternoon Tea box delivery and I cannot wait to try out all the other different scones and goodies. Thank you so much Sweetbird and I also love take everything was handcrafted right in my wonderful city of Los Angeles!!
