Chef Jen takes the hassle out of mealtimes by devising and delivering healthy and varied menus for a week’s worth of meals. This is definitely music to the ears of someone like me who isn’t that keen on cooking and loves the thought of meals that are ready in mere minutes. With many ingredients sourced from suppliers in Borough Market, you’re guaranteed quality as well!
Menus are published on their website for the following week. They include one lunchbox salad item, one mini meal for kids, with the remaining choices covering vegetarian, meat and fish options. One vegetarian option I saw was spiced edamame bean burgers with ribbon slaw & chive creme fraiche, which sounded very appealing even to a carnivore! Some dishes include a garnish, typically a dressing or topping. I chose the following:
- Stuffed Mozzarella Smoked Fishcakes
- Signature Thai Chicken Curry (lower carb)
- Bibimbap (Korean Beef Rice Bowl)
- Mini Meal: Kids Fish Pie
- Side of Rosemary Baked Chips
Deliveries are made between 18.00-21.00 on your designated delivery day. Everything is in recyclable packaging - good for the environment. A card containing cooking instructions for each dish is included and the lid labels give information on total calories per serving as well as the use by date (which was 3 full days after the delivery date). You can also freeze the meals and use them within 1 month.
I decided to have the bibimbap as my first meal as it’s a favourite pre-theatre dinner of mine. It couldn’t have been simpler - just 3 minutes in the microwave and it was dinner time! It was delicious and filling with lots of vegetables. I can’t take much spicy heat so I only used a little of the hot sauce in the chef’s garnish pot.
The Thai chicken curry is a lower carb version, which means no rice. However, you don’t really miss it as there’s a generous amount of chicken, plus vegetables like peppers and cauliflower. The curry sauce was tasty and had some heat - medium/upper end of mild.
The fishcakes came with some peas and greens in a separate container. I froze these and the rosemary baked chips on the delivery day and then defrosted everything overnight in the fridge the day before cooking. The fishcakes and chips came out of the oven smelling divine. The smoked haddock in the fishcakes was just the right amount not to be too overpowering. The rosemary chips were extremely moreish and felt healthier for being baked. I also tried the children’s mini meal fish pie. This adult was very happy eating the lovely combo of potato, fish and lots of creamy sauce.
I really enjoyed the variety, taste and convenience of my healthy meals delivery. I’m sure that many busy Londoners would benefit from this too! For those who would like a little extra help, Chef Jen also offers a bespoke meals option, with personalised menus designed and then delivered to your home.
