Little Nan’s DIY Cocktail Party -the Gift that keeps on giving

If you’ve not heard of or been to a Little Nan’s, let me give you a bit of background. What started off as a pop-up bar in the backroom of a Deptford nightclub, has grown into a multi-site chain of award winning bars, brunch spots and even an event’s business.

Kitsch beyond words and taking inspiration from the owner’s late Little Nan Jojo, one of the biggest draws of these bars is their cocktails. With 7 years of strong entrepreneurial spirit in his back pocket, owner Tristan (Grandson Tristan) found an opportunity during lockdown to launch takeaway ‘Locktails’ and DIY Cocktail Party Boxes, making sure they were in-keeping with the Little Nan’s brand. There are a range of boxes to choose from, with their own unique themes. Fancy an all night longer with the Sir Lionel Richie? No problem, there’s a cocktail party box for that. How about a royal escape with a Prince Harry themed box? Or, if like me the start of lockdown had you binge-watching The Tiger King on Netflix, then it has to be That Damn Carole Baskin DIY Cocktail Party set. Beautifully packaged in leopard skin wrapping paper, which looks like it’s straight out of the gift shop at the Big Cat Sanctuary, inside were more layers than an onion. This cocktail party box really was the gift that kept on giving, until you finally got to the bottom and found the most important thing – Tequila! Before then, layer upon layer of fun party attire, including (but by no means limited to) a clever ‘make your own tiger crown’, animal print flip flops, more old-school sweets than you can shake a stick at, a garland of Carol Baskin-esque flowers and even a water pistol for the safe reenactment of key Tiger King moments if am-dram is your thing. When you finally peel back all of the layers, you’re met with four jars containing everything you crazy cats and kittens will need for your cocktails. The different coloured jewels on top of the jars indicate what’s what and match up with instructions left in the box on what measurements you need to make them. There’s even a small empty jar for measuring out so that you can get them (reasonably) spot on. All that’s left to do is garnish with cocktail umbrellas, straws and other brilliantly garish sparkly things included in the pack and hey presto, you’ve got yourself a cocktail night to enjoy, socially distanced of course, with friends.
