The Bagel Broker Provides Classic Bagel Spreads and More
It's no wonder that The Bagel Broker has been a local favorite in Los Angeles for over 30 years. Every day, this family-owned small business lovingly produces mouthwatering breakfast and lunch standards: hot bagels fresh out of the oven, whipped cream cheese, pastries, bagel and croissant sandwiches, deli meats and salads by the half-pound, and coffee and other beverages.
The Bagel Broker really lives up to their name with their old-school bagels, which they boil and then bake, so they're doughy and savory inside and thinly crisp outside. The fresh bagel scent transports me back to my childhood days in New York and New Jersey. The jalapeno cheddar version is a standout, with a generous smothering of cheese and just the right amount of jalapenos for a verdant spicy kick, but you really can't go wrong with any of their bagel varieties. They offer several whipped cream cheese flavors for you as well to go with that bagel. They also make my personal favorite breakfast carb, the lesser-known "bialy." It's kind of like an enormous bagel with a sunken center instead of a hole, and The Bagel Broker packs that center with diced mild onion. This is a must-try, especially if you've never had a bialy before - seriously, I give a big chef's kiss to this! Want something sweet? The Bagel Broker has you covered with an assortment of freshly made pastries like bear claws, scones, danishes, chocolate chip cookies, and cinnamon rolls. They make a devilishly rich classic fudge brownie that is as fudgey and cakey as it is huge. If you want a lighter sweet, go for one of their muffins. Their double chocolate chip muffin gives you yummy chocolate flavor in every bite via a light and moist muffin. This is what muffins are supposed to be like, not like other places' dry muffins that crumble to pieces after you take a bite. I truly believe The Bagel Broker has perfected the muffin. Speaking of perfection, their croissants have so many airy flaky buttery layers, it's a personal rule of mine to always buy at least one with whatever else I order there. Sandwich lovers like me will also appreciate their selection of fresh deli salads and meats, which can be made into a bagel or croissant sandwich or taken home by the half pound. I was recently in a plain Jane kind of mood while working from home, so I had a simple pairing of tuna salad on a toasted wheat bagel, and it made for a nice and swift carby tangy lunch that kept me going the rest of the day. They'll build you a sandwich however you like, including breakfast sandwiches like ham/cheese/egg, egg/lox/cream cheese, and more. You can walk in and eat at one of their small tables outside, order ahead online for pickup, or request catering for delivery. They're a small shop doing big business for good reason, and everyone working the counter there is friendly, helpful, and efficient.
