Seafood Serendipity at Randall & Aubin

Nestled in hip and happening Soho this restaurant Randall & Aubin is a little treasure I found thanks to Hype experiences. R&A was opened in 1996 and it quickly became famous for the offer of 6 oysters and one glass of Champagne for £7.50. The restaurant was previously a butcher shop and the space preserves some of the features of its past. I love the informality and the atmosphere, the owners have made much of the historic character, the long marble dining tables and the high stools that have been installed are a nice alternative to the standard table and chairs you might expect.

As soon as we arrived we were given a nice corner high bench area with space to move. The menu is in a frame on the wall which I thought was a great idea. We were very well looked after by Robin, our waiter, who gave us some recommendations for dishes. We took a long time to make our minds up as to what to order, as there was such a variety and choice of dishes that it was hard to choose!  This is what we ordered  Starters: 1. Calamari frites - with pimento & peppercorn salsa £11.50 2. Rock shrimp tempura - with avocado & mayonnaise £12.50 3. Lobster caprese salad £12.50 Mains 4. Lobster - roasted in garlic butter with pommes frites  £24.50 Desserts 5. Flambée crème brûlée £7.00 6. Chocolate delice with salted caramel sauce & ice cream £7.00 Drinks Mocktails 7. Nojito - apple, mint, sugar, lime & soda £7.50 8. Faux French - pineapple, raspberry, elderflower & lime £7.50 and 9. Percheron Old Vine under red wine menu £6.20 We ordered 3 appetizers: shrimp tempura, calamari, and the Lobster caprese salad. I would say the Shrimp tempura and the Lobster caprese salad stood out but the calamari frites were still good. Lobster salad was delicious and very flavoursome, when seeing the plates one might think there isn't too much food served but it's actually so filling that it is perfectly proportioned. The half lobster in a garlic butter was stunning & we washed it down with a very acceptable Percheron Old Vine - a wine that neither of us had tried before but would definitely drink again. We didn't think we had room for desserts but the people sitting next to us had some and they looked good so we had one too. We had creme brulee and Chocolate delice with salted caramel sauce- both were excellent. We will definitely come back as this is for sure a quality seafood restaurant delivering authentic food and welcoming environment. Everyone just seems happy there whether it's the staff or the customers. Also, it is not too overpriced! What else can you ask for?
