I have been fascinated with mochi ever since I have heard about them. I have tried various products in the past, may it be just the plain mochi or with filling and of course the mochi ice cream as well. And since then, I have been obsessed with finding the best version that is out there in the market. Enter Mochidoki.
Mochidoki is a mochi ice cream brand from New York. They have 2 physical locations, in the Upper East Side and Soho, respectively. And they also are taking online orders, which they ship, nationwide. I was super excited to find out they were already shipping nationally. As someone who lives in a rural area in Nebraska, I was stoked to know Mochidoki’s products could reach me. What I got delivered to my house was their Signature Collection Box, which contains 24 beautifully made mochi ice creams. This includes 12 of their best-selling flavours—Matcha, Red Bean, Vanilla Chip, Chocolate, Passion Fruit, Lychee, Black Sesame, Ube, Salted Caramel, Strawberry, Espresso, and Coconut. I was very much impressed with the packaging; there was dry ice on top and a lot of insulators to ensure that the products inside the box would maintain their integrity. Packaging was on the simple side but the ice creams truly made up for the simplicity of the box. Mochidoki is a term the creators have coined, which loosely translates to Mochi-time! I believe if you love ice cream as much as I do, mochi ice creams should be part of your ice cream rotation, whatever season we are in. As someone who avidly consumes ice cream all year round, I must say, I think I have found the best mochi ice cream in the market. What truly impressed me with their ice cream was the perfect ratio of mochi to ice cream. They were able to encase a fair amount of ice cream in a thin layer of mochi rice dough. On their website, they stated they wanted to deliver a balanced dessert and I absolutely guarantee this was achieved. The mochi layer did not overpower the ice cream flavour. Quality control for each disc of ice cream was impeccable. Out of all the flavours they included in the box, my absolute favourites were the Matcha, Ube, Vanilla Chip, and Salted Caramel because out of all the ice creams they were the creamiest. And for the ice cream that was fruit-based, Lychee stood out the most for me. The flavours that were my least favourite were Red Bean, as I could not taste the adzuki as much, and the Black Sesame as it was on the icy side. But this is already being nit-picky with the products as overall they were outstanding. Overall, I would order this product again in a heartbeat. And if ever you would want to buy your significant other a gift for the holidays, they have now released their Tea & Cookies Holiday Box. This includes this Signature Collection Box as well as a 4-piece box each of Mochidoki's brand new Hojicha and Seoul Cookie mochi ice cream flavors. You would not regret getting a box from them as each mocha ice cream is truly a burst of sunshine in your mouth with every bite.
