Mulan Rouge - Theatre Dinner Show
The Vaults Theatre Groups' latest production is a creative fusion of Camptastic Caberet ‘Moulin Rouge’ fused together with Disney's Mulan’.
As you enter the venue underneath the arches of Waterloo Station, you are taken to another world with dramatic sets and smokey rooms, and mood lighting. The atmosphere is electric with the crowd waiting in anticipation of what is about to start. You are seated in a cavernous room where you take a drink at the bar whilst you wait for the evening to start. The stage is then taken and the story starts. Mulan tells you of her journey and her freedom fight taking her father’s place at war. They take to Paris with the General (General Lee) and her fellow army troo., (all played by women) the troop ends up at the Moulin Rouge to battle the ‘huns - referenced by a hilarious click of the fingers’. The actors stage the journey through witty quips, songs, jokes, and interaction with the audience. Whilst battling the ensuing war, Mulan inadvertently falls in love with a Moulin Rouge stage girl called Ginger and the story then takes a twist on the gender equality that is not shown in other stage shows and is beautifully told. The actors are brilliantly funny and keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. The acting singing and gags keep you thoroughly entertained. The dinner (a 4-course sophisticated affair) is a lovely addition to the evening. It’s served at intervals throughout the performance. You are served foremost with a tofu lettuce wrap served with a baked Camembert, cranberry jam, and a crusty baguette. The cheese was studded with fragrant garlic and was just delicious!! The main course was a slow-cooked lamb shoulder brought together with charred Savoy cabbage and herby roasted potatoes. Finishing the meal you had a charred pineapple ring together with a sort of nest of crispy pastry and a sweet whipped cream, a fresh welcome, and a sweet finale! The show was a brilliant evening of comedy and theatrics that was inclusive, immersive, and memorable!! The Vaults have a fantastic set of actors that give you a superb night's performance I left wanting to book another straight away! Just brilliant!!
