A Very Special Cocktail Experience
I went to the Natural Philosopher with one of my friends for a relaxed night out in Bethnal Green and it turned out to be even more wonderful than I expected. The pictures on the website really don't reflect how amazing the bar is.
It's hidden away behind a Mac repair store and the atmosphere is nothing that I imagined. When I walked in, it felt like stepping into a rainforest at night. The lights were dimmed and there were a lot of natural elements on the walls. It created such an amazing ambiance. When I looked at the menu, I realised that they had none of the usual cocktails I would drink, so I took a chance and started experimenting. I went for a Rosehip as a first drink, which was absolutely refreshing. My friend chose the Tonka Bean, which came with a hay straw. We also tried Pistachio, Black Garlic, Dogwood, and Mountain Honey. To me, Pistachio and Black Garlic stood out the most. Pistachio, which is a cocktail made out of Bán Poitín Potato Spirit, 30&40 Apple Spirit, Pistachio, Orange Bitters, and Flower Essence felt extremely soft and very much like pistachio cream in my favourite cannelloni even though there is no cream in it. On the other hand, Black Garlic tasted like one of my favourite spirits from Hungary, Unicum, but it was extremely different at the same time. It didn't leave a mouth taste of garlic, it merely smelled of it while tasting quite bitter and being on the savoury side. It honestly was such an amazing experience. We had a lot of fun and left extremely relaxed after a long week at work. I would definitely recommend checking out this amazing, hidden bar in the heart of Bethnal Green. It's perfect for friendly get-togethers and dates, as well as to start a night out or wind down after a long week. I can't wait to go back and try even more cocktails on the menu.
