The Cocktail Man Posh Cocktails
I’ve been a Negroni binge recently so it was very exciting to get the chance to try the ‘Earth and Turf cocktail experience’ from The Cocktail Man (thanks Hype Experiences!)
Presented beautifully in a sturdy glossy branded box complete with a recipe card and a little explanation for the thought process behind the drink was everything I needed to make my Earth Negroni - Conker Port Barrel gin, Campari, and the unique element, Earth Sliqueur… Various flavoured Sliqueurs are the special Cocktail Man touch, as well as already devised cocktail kits you can customise your own box using one of the 96 (!) different flavours along with a range of spirits and garnishes. And the garnish in this box is just the cutest thing ever, tiny little spades that hold a chunk of preserved ginger. Adorable and very much on theme. I tasted my Sliqueur on its own first, very sweet (it’s a syrup with 10% Abv) with lovely fruity rhubarb and orange and a warming touch of ginger which I particularly enjoyed. In terms of the negroni, it’s taking the place of vermouth but flavour-wise it’s more aperitif-like with its slightly bitter orange notes. It wouldn’t go amiss poured over some gelato! The recipe card says you get 4-5 drinks, standard 50ml measures if so. I like my cocktails a little larger so I reckon I’d get 3 (or 2 very large ones…) and I’m happy with that as an outcome. I enjoyed it very much as a drink, a little sweet for my palate, I’ll probably up the Campari on my next one, but I’m a hardened negroni drinker and the bitterness that can put so many people off is tempered here by the use of syrup making it much easier to approach for a novice! Definitely a nice warming wintery cocktail, the ginger comes through beautifully and not artificially along with a surprising touch of soft vanilla. And once I’m done I’ve got that lovely chunk of sugared ginger to munch on… a very successful, easy-to-use cocktail-making experience.
