CANTINA 1910
Possibly the best Mexican I’ve ever tasted! I love Mexican foods, whether it be tacos, tostadas, or enchiladas, and 1910 delivered the goods perfectly! I decided to head to the 1910 cantina and grab a table for two as a date night on a Friday, and I was not disappointed.
Instantly the waitstaff was very attentive, keen to serve us and get the cocktails flowing, consistently checking on us throughout the evening to ensure we had everything we needed. It was also the perfect balance between buzzy and relaxed, collected vibes with dimmed lighting - perfect for a date-night atmosphere. We ordered all the Nibbles on the menu to get the night going; TOTOPOS - Salted tortilla chips, GUACAMOLE - Smashed avocado, tomato, red onion, coriander and lime and FRIJOLES -Refried black beans, topped with cheese which was hands down our favorite starter with ample melted stringy cheese to dip our salted tortilla chips into. For mains, we shared the BIRRIA TIJUANA STYLE and BAJA PESCADO, which was the showstopper with the perfect combination of crunchy texture from the battered white fish, with red cabbage and punchy citrus flavor from the perfectly paired lime dressing, chipotle aioli sauce and wedge of lime. The drinks list is not to be ignored either and is a showstopper in and of itself! With the extensive tequila list, you’re sure to find authentic tequila to truly warm the cockles of you and your guests’ hearts. Alternatively, if cocktails are more your thing, 1910 will not disappoint. Their take on the Picante cocktail with Mezcal Verde, Plantation pineapple rum, homemade pineapple syrup, freshly pressed lemon, and chipotle adobo topped with light tonic hit all the spots I needed it to with its hints of chipotle spice and contrasting fruity sweetness. So don’t let the small exterior fool you - this place is perfect for cozy date nights or group get-togethers with its vibrant atmosphere and beautifully presented plates that are packed full of flavor. This tasty hidden gem is casually stealing our hearts in the heart of Balham.
