Finally, a reason to visit Deptford!

There's a great little bar under the arches of an unremarkable train station in a dull corner of London. There's not a lot going for Deptford at the minute, but this bar's presence might indicate that things are about to change.

Observing from the outside, you might be forgiven for thinking that there's not much here. But walking through the door, you're immediately transported to your Nan's house. Oh, does your Nan not cover every bare inch of furniture with lacy doilies and kitsch? Does your Nan not hide the booze in the teakettles and ply you with so much sugar that you can't tell if you're getting drunk or suffering a diabetic emergency? Is your Nan's house not a monument to The EastEnders? OK, let's call her your fairy god-nan, then. Sundays with Nan are always unique, and that's true for Sunday at Little Nan's. Here you can indulge in Pat Butcher's Bottomless Brunch, a boozy, sugary tribute to your Nan's favorite soap opera heroine. It starts with a choice of cocktails, and all are served in cheerful little teapots. Be careful with your options here, as they tend to be quite sweet. If you prefer your cocktails less on the dainty side, veer towards The Duke of Bermondsey or Prince William. If sweet and tropical is your groove, then you can't go wrong with the Costa del Deptford. Next up is Nan's cakestand, piled high with cocktail sausages, swiss rolls, and carrot sticks with lots of dips. I hope you don't expect your old Nan to cook, but the rationale for what's served here is really to create a small buffer between you and the alcohol. And really, it's all just leading up to Nan's specialty: fish finger sarnies! If you're fortunate and it's your birthday or other special occasion, then Nan pulls out all the stops. Taking inspiration from the 'freak shake' trend, Nan will mix her extra-special top-secret cocktail and pile it with retro sweets like wagon wheels and dip&licks. She even gave me a card! All in all, it was a lovely visit and one we'd love to repeat. We had a great time sitting in the parlor, sipping our 'tea' and eating our sandwiches. The soundtrack was excellent, and we had a great time. A quick note for those with food allergies: I'm coeliac, and Nan was very accommodating. Just let her know ahead of time!
