DeerBox - healthy meat to your door!
For the last few years, I have been quite conscious about the quality of meat I consume (and the potential effects on my health). I was purposefully looking for either grass-fed or game meat, which sometimes isn't that easy to find in my local shops.
When I came across DeerBox, I was pretty excited to learn that they deliver sustainably sourced wild venison products to the door across the UK. Venison meat is much better than farmed meat. It is lower in fat and cholesterol, high in protein, vitamins, and minerals (such as Iron, Vitamin B's, Zinc, Essential Amino Acids), promotes muscle growth, and is free of drugs and medicines. So knowing all these benefits, I was excited to Gove DeerBox ago! The meat arrived in a well-insulated box, so the meat was still frozen. I went for a Wild variety venison box, which was a great value - I received two burgers, six sausages, two steaks, 500g mince, 500g diced venison, Osso buco, and a venison loin portion (cost of such box is 60 pounds). I was delighted with the variety and amount of meat - this will last me quite some time! The meat was accompanied by a booklet with some recipe suggestions, which was excellent - I am looking forward to trying to make venison meatballs with ricotta! I have frozen most of the meat (it arrived frozen, so there was no issue of re-freezing) and have tried sausages straight away in a shakshuka (box reached in the morning) - they were a great addition to the dish, as were very lean and full of flavors! I have also made a venison casserole which turned out very tasty. I will be ordering DeerBox again - wild meat is so much better for your health than farmed and tastes delicious!
