A Chocolate that makes you Mello

Just like the name itself, ‘mello’ chocolate promises to do just that - make you feel more mello. So who wouldn't love the opportunity to try it and see if it really works?

With disturbing world events and a global pandemic, my stress levels have certainly been higher than normal. So when I found a chocolate that contains antigens that help you to relax without losing focus I couldn’t wait to try it for myself. There are two different types of mello bars to choose from - milk chocolate and dark chocolate. As a lover of dark dark chocolate, that is what I ordered. The bars are Non-GMO, Gluten free and Fair trade. All good things!. But what does it contain to make you relax, I wondered. Well turns out it is infused with Lemon Balm and L-Theanine. I discovered that L-Theanine is a water soluble amino acid found in green tea and mushrooms that promotes relaxation without causing drowsiness. And it also promotes stress relief, and boosts focus & concentration. And lemon balm is a lemon scented herb that comes from the mint family. Also used to relieve stress and improve cognitive function. The packaging is fresh and modern and inside the lavender colored bags, I found six individually wrapped Mello chocolate bars. And each bar is made up of two large bite size pieces of chocolate (that snap in half should you be one of those strange people that can stop at one piece!). One piece has the words mello stamped on it and the other, a cute little shut eye. Actually each piece is about two bites worth. So four bites to eat a bar. I was curious if it was going to have an unusual or citrus infused taste due to the botanicals that are infused in it, but it just tasted like straight up dark chocolate. Very delicious, velvety, rich dark chocolate. You certainly wouldn't want more than two pieces in a serving - this quantity completely satisfies your craving for chocolate. I like that they are individually wrapped bars as they are perfect for popping in your lunch box, your handbag, your gym bag or just keeping in your desk drawer for when stress or fatigue strikes or you just need a mood boost. An at only 80 calories per bar, you can enjoy them without the guilt. But does it actually work? The first one I ate, I didn't notice a huge difference. Well certainly nothing dramatic. Yes, I was feeling a little calmer but I wasn't sure if it was a placebo effect. Then every day for a week I would eat one either after lunch or after dinner and I definitely felt an increase in my clarity and less of a post meal fatigue. And I felt calmer in general. That's a huge win for me. I particularly like that I can get that feeling of being mellow without losing any clarity (which is not the case with other types of edibles). So it means I can carry on being productive, but in a much calmer way. I also recommend these as an end of day or afternoon snack and you wind down into the evening.
