Too much choice from Dundee!

Such a beautiful selection form Dundee Gin and despite previous misconceptions and concerns about gin liqueurs being far too sugary, I was willing to give them a try after learning that the gin profile was more at the forefront of what they do alongside using local botanicals and working alongside other local small businesses!

At first, the welcome for Dundee Gin was amazing with a little message about each of the gins as well as recommended serves. The bottles were well packaged and displayed along with two bottles of their recommended mixers, which came in handy and were completely unexpected! Blueberry Gin Liqueur To be honest, the blueness frightened me a little bit and I was cautious in trying it. Hoping that it wasn’t overly sugary. Yet, this is not what you get at all They pride it in being the most juniper forward of all of the liqueurs and it certainly is. On the nose, sweet blueberry jam is prominent and this is continues as you take a sip of the gin. Sweet blueberries with a jammy sweetness before the juniper warmth seeps through. Served as a cocktail- Gin liqueur Simple syrup Lime juice Mint Tonic water to top up Allowed for a gentle sweet and refreshing balance with the mint and lime combination. It made me think of most liqueurs are made like this then I’m willing to try more. Cranachan Gin Liqueur Cranachan, is a Scottish dessert and this recipe is created using local honey and Dundee 800 anniversary whisky. Until now, I was unaware of this dessert. It’s A sweet dessert created using summer raspberries folded into cream flavoured with honey, whisky and toasted oatmeal This had to be the sweetest liqueur out of the collection. However, it was absolutely delicious and I was utterly indecisive in what to use it for. At first, I just wanted to pour it all over ice cream for a simple yet gorgeous dessert to allow for those vanilla notes to truly sing. This bottle truly encapsulates the dessert in the bottle with sweet raspberries and vanilla at the forefront and a creamy almond finish with an underlining warming whisky and caramel undertones. Instead I recreated the gin as a cocktail. Gin Apple juice Honey Syrup Lemon Juice Raspberries Egg White Soda to top up Cinnamon sugar for garnish So moreish and delicious, I wish I could recreate another one! Summer Fruits Liqueur Created using local berries from Angus, close to Dundee. On the nose, jammy strawberries and raspberries with a delicate spice of juniper. To taste, the juniper balances with the berries at first with sharp raspberry tartness and a lemon citrus finish. Again, this was served as a cocktail using: Gin Lemon juice sugar syrup 4-5 Fresh Strawberries Crushed ice Sweet summer cocktail with the raspberries and blackberries seeping through. Refreshing serve. Marmalade Gin This gin is created using the original marmalade recipe from Mackays using traditional methods. Vibrant sweet and refreshing orange is heavily at the forefront. It really tantalises your senses. To taste, sweet with the balance of warming juniper and undertones of cinnamon spice. Cocktail Marmalade Gin Campari Lemon juice Sugar syrup Orange bitters This allowed for a vibrant orange marmalade with sweet a fresh orange with the balance of the campari and bitters. Dundee Cake Dundee Cake Liqueur was created in collaboration with local bakers Goodfellow & Steven and Clark’s to ensure that a true Dundee cake finish was created. Vanilla, buttery cake-y finish with hints of orange and lemon peel and that true dried fruit taste. With juniper and delicate nutmeg style finish. Paired with ginger ale, the flavours broaden and gives you that true cake in a glass feel. Dundee Small Batch Gin With all of the botanicals picked locally from the university of Dundee’s botanical garden. A traditional London dry gin with juniper at the forefront with candied lemon and orange peel midway with sweet liquorice root before a warm spicy finish of cinnamon and nutmeg. Overall, a beautiful award winning sweet of gins to encounter! It’s fantastic to see small businesses working together to create some truly beautiful liqueurs, which allows to experience all of the delights that Scotland has to offfer.
