Dundee gin

The Dundee Gin Company was founded in 2017 and its first launch was that of a full-strength marmalade gin. This gin is now a liqueur in their range made using MacKays Dundee marmalade which if you've ever tried you'll know it's moorishly delicious and full of flavour.

The company prides itself on doing all things as local where possible so they use local produce, employ locally to reduce unemployment in the area and support local charities raising over £118,000 for local causes. I've chosen to try their Dundee Dry Gin which includes the botanicals lemongrass, ginger and cardamom harvested from their own Dundee Botanical Gardens! How fab is that? At 46% abv its a punchy gin that delights your palate. I got a lovely fresh taste of juniper at first which then develops a citrus feel ending with a lovely soft sweet finish with a hint of liquorice. I enjoyed it first neat over ice. Sipping it near allowed all the botanicals to come through perfectly. Again that lovely soft sweet finish of liquorice was delightful and added to the smooth mouthful. Then as suggested I tried it with a wedge of citrus fruit firstly with fresh lime and then dehydrated lemon wheel. Then for a bit of difference, I tried a slice of fresh ginger! All were equally enjoyable so you can see how versatile this gin is. All serves were tried with a good Indian tonic (naning no names!) very enjoyable and easy to forget it's 46% abv as it's so smooth. I've now got my eye on their Old Tom special edition to try if there's any left!
