Well it’s hard to believe that the newest addition to the Becketts range is a higher proof 48% gin!
I always like to start by assessing the bottle itself, it’s a good ‘traditional’ square shape with good stopper and very pretty label. A few nice touches on the label that are appealing are it has on the front a batch and a bottle number and on the back it is signed by Neil Beckett. It’s a refreshing change to drink a gin that isn’t overly complex and yet is still packed with flavour. I paired it with my usual light tonic and added some mint. I found Becketts Spirited to be a perfectly balanced citrus gin with a slight background sweetness and finishing clean on the palate with a hint of mint. A very smooth, easy drinking gin which is surprising given the high proof. Clear juniper taste to the fore which for me is a must for any good gin. This gin works well in a cocktail and on this particular occasion I opted for a negroni to bring out the orange tone - delicious! I love the conservation ethos behind this gin. They must be commended for the work they are doing to help save juniper from local extinction in England they are undertaking a long-term conservation project in conjunction with the National Trust and Natural England which will create a new juniper population. To sum up Becketts Spirited is a great find and would be a fabulous addition to any gin drinkers collection.
