Beckett's Gin is a range of exquisite spirits, each one with its own unique flavour. I tried the Gin Miniatures Variety Gift Set, which consists of 3 x 5cl bottles. One Beckett's London Dry, one Beckett's Sloe Gin and one of Beckett's Spirited Gin.
The flagship London Dry gin is distilled in London using the finest ingredients, including juniper berries from England and mint from Kingston-upon-Thames. I absolutely loved the gift box that the three miniatures arrived in. Each with a little description of the Gin and a suggested serve. I first tried the London Dry with the suggested serve of plenty of ice, a good tonic, and a sprig of fresh mint. A beautiful, refreshing gin, perfect for the evening of the hottest day of the year. So easy to drink with its soft citrus and juniper notes. Next up was the sloe gin. Now, a lot of people associate sloe gin with autumn and winter, however I think it creates the perfect summertime drink when mixed with bitter lemon or cloudy/old-fashioned lemonade. Having sampled many a sloe gin in my time this one is up there with the best. Fruity and full-bodied, it was beautiful sipped over ice (how I try all gins initially). I then mixed it with a good quality lemonade (you know, the proper lemony ones) and a sprig of rosemary. Utterly delicious. When mixed together they emit an almost sherbet flavour which is both refreshing, tart and sweet at the same time. And finally, the Spirited Gin. This is described as 'A bold gin, full of spirit with beautifully balanced citrus notes of lime and sweet orange peel'. The Beckett's people suggest this is great served in a cocktail such as a Southside, Martini or Bramble. Having never tried a Southside before I thought I'd give it a go. Wow! I think I have found my new favourite cocktail! Light, zesty and refreshing, perfect for a balmy summer evening and so simple to make. I am majorly impressed with the three gins that I sampled. From the beautifully classy packaging and miniature bottles to the quality of the gins inside, everything was spot on and I highly recommend people add them to their wish list or better still just go and buy them!
