When I say I have been eyeballing this brand on Instagram for the past year, I mean it. I have been DYING to try Perl, but with how busy life has been with Covid, a new job and a new puppy, I just never managed to find the time for skincare, let alone ordering from Perl. Thankfully, with the new role and life slowing down a bit, I found myself scrolling through Hype to get back into reviewing when I came across this drool-worthy skincare brand.
Perl is an inspirational skincare company, made from all-natural ingredients and growing at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. I have been following Isobel’s journey (didn’t even have to look up her name) on Instagram from the start-up phase to her hiring of her first employees. It’s been surreal, encouraging and invigorating to see her make a mountain out of a molehill. And I was SO excited to try this brand. The delivery was quick and well-packed. Unfortunately for me, it came at 10 AM on a Friday, during working hours, and ALL I WANTED TO DO was put a mask on the second it arrived. Instead, I practised self-control and unpacked everything that evening. First, is the Ready, Set, Glow candle. If I could describe a scent to you, I would, but this is just one of those things you have to buy to understand. The scent is not overbearing, but powerful enough that the second I opened the box, it filled my nostrils. I immediately shoved it into my partner’s face, ordering him to “SMELL THAT RIGHT NOW”. I, of course, ordered the OGs, the British Pink Clay Mask and Illuminating Oil, plus the bamboo accessories and brush. The mask itself is a super fun pink colour that doesn’t have a strong scent. It’s a fun, pink colour which is a nice break from the usual clay masks that make you look like you’ve slathered on mud. After the mask was left to dry for 10 minutes and washed off, my skin looked fabulous. And I mean FABULOUS. To give a bit of background, I haven’t experienced those soul-crushing bouts of skin problems since I was a teenager. This is where Perl’s ethos of “one size doesn’t fit all” comes in. My skin is relatively normal unless I use the wrong product (then I can get some nasty spots). If anything, I suffer from a dullness to my skin that makes me look pallid, but this mask gave me a rejuvenated complexion. All this before the Radiance Oil was even used. The Radiance Oil itself is very smooth and doesn’t have that usual sticky consistency that other oils tend to have. It didn’t feel heavy or like it would give me a pimple, so I decided, what the heck, I’m going to sleep in this overnight. I didn’t notice any immediate benefits to my skin, so I think this one needs time to build for you to really see it. But I am excited to see the results!
