A MUST for Cheese Lovers

Fewer things make me happier in life than cheese (okay apart from my family and friends, but let's be honest even they can get on my nerves at times!) Cheese never gets on my nerves. It's quite simply, brilliant all the time.

I love Christmas and my first thought every year as we approach is 'I can't wait for the cheeseboard on Christmas night'. It really is the highlight for me. So, when I discovered that The Mouse House Cheese Co have an advent calendar, I had to get it! 12 100g truckles of different cheeses to open throughout December. The flavours in no particular order are.....Red Leicester, Finest Vintage English Cheddar, Orange and Whiskey Cheddar, Mature Cheddar, Cranberry Cheddar, Garlic and Chive Cheddar, Italian Pizza Cheddar, Christmas Pudding Cheddar, Black Pepper Cheddar, Caramelised Onion Cheddar, Black as Coal and Smoked Cheddar. You can see from the list the amazing variety of flavours so there's definitely something for everyone. I created a cheeseboard so I could sample all of them together. What I love about the Mouse House cheeses is that the flavours are so vibrant. The Italian Pizza tastes just like a pizza! It's infused with flavours of tomato, basil and garlic to give a truly authentic flavour of a pizza! The Mouse House people recommend adding it to homemade pizza or to pasta dishes which I am definitely going to try but it also is just as delicious on a cracker accompanied by some olives. Now, the Christmas Pudding Cheddar just screams Christmas when you bite into it. Infused with mixed fruit, mixed spice and brandy it has a beautiful warm sweetness that is delicious when accompanied by a digestive biscuit and a tart chutney. Some of these 'unusual' flavours may not be to everyone's taste but there are so many excellent cheeses that everyone would like in this Advent Calendar. The Mature Cheddar and the Finest Vintage English Cheddar are amongst the best cheddars I have ever sampled. Creamy with a hint of sharpness they're just how cheddars should taste. And you can never go wrong with a Red Leicester on the board. The 'Black as Coal' truckle really is a special addition to any cheeseboard. It has a slightly softer texture than the other cheddars and is so creamy with just a hint of charcoal coming through, so don't worry it's nothing at all like eating coal (not that I have ever). This advent calendar is just brilliant. You could save them all up for your Christmas night cheeseboard or sample them as you go throughout December. Either way what a fabulous way to get into the festive spirit and to enjoy with family and friends.
