Two weeks before the official opening of the Outdoor international art festival, Wunderkammern has the pleasure to host a group exhibition showcasing works by 10 of the artists of the 2016 edition. AFK, Xabier Anunzibai, Alex Fakso, Honet, Joys, Kuril Chto, Mobstr, Sebas Velasco, Virgilio Villoresi and Vlady will explore the central concepts of the festival: the limit and its overcoming. The artists invite us to reflect on the idea of going Beyond, of trespassing the limits. Spatial and conceptual limits that influences us in both the public and intimate spheres of our life. What if we cross them? What if we go Beyond? As a metaphoric process, the artists will challenge their notions of artistic work and the definition of the aesthetic gesture, by working through different media, canvas and paper alongside photos, sculptures and installations. AFK (Bergen) is a Norwegian urban artist. Famous for his stencils which often hide political messages, AFK continues to hide his identity creating works on the streets all over Europe. Xabier Anunzibai (Beasain, 1985), also known as Xabier XTRM, is a Spanish street artist who combines different mediums in his work: murals, canvases, drawings, video productions and installations half-way between paintings and sculptures. Alex Fakso (Bassano del Grappa, 1977) began his career in the early ‘90s as a skate photographer. Today his photos combine art and reportage of the urban culture and the underground scene. His work has been published in important magazines, while he counts numerous solo and group shows. Honet (Paris, 1972) is a French graffiti artist and illustrator. Honet draws his inspiration from cult movies, fairy tales and sci-fi, introducing a very personal style which combines gothic illustration and romanticism. He loves painting at abandoned and forgotten places and his interventions can be seen all over Europe and beyond. Joys (Padova, 1974) starts his career as a writer in the early ‘90s. The artist uses a variety of artistic techniques, from mural painting to sculpture, always breaking the two dimensions and creating unique geometrical pieces. His works have been shown in many prestigious institutions and manifestations. Kuril Chto is a crew of Russian writers. Their works are characterized by graffiti in Cyrillic. One of their biggest inspirations is the famous street artist Russian Kirill Kto, from which they adopt the ability to protest with irony through their works around the streets of the city. Their messages are raw, satirical and true and reject the recognition of their work. Mobstr (Newcastle) is a street artist renowned for his provocative, playful, ironic and funny typographic interventions around the city. Through his public interventions the artist tackles themes such as advertising, consumerism and contemporary society. Virgilio Villoresi (Fiesole, 1979) is an Italian videomaker who works and lives in Milan. His early inspirations include Polish animation, European experimental cinema and avant-garde scene and American underground scene. Velasco leaves his mark in the urban landscape painting narrative murals all over Europe. From big size walls to canvases, Velasco’s current practice includes illustration, drawing and painting. During the last years his research became more conceptual working on large-scale outdoor installations often characterized by humor and sarcasm. L’artista ama dipingere in luoghi abbandonati e dimenticati e i suoi interventi possono essere ammirati in tutta Europa e oltre.
