The Life Goddess

For my Birthday dinner date this week we visited ‘The Life Goddess’ which is located in the very historical and quaint Carnby Street. I had heard rave reviews about the restaurant and the entire authentic Greek food experience it offers, and it really lived up to its reputation.

We were greeted by the lovely Nikos who took us through the menu and was a great host throughout, explaining the history and culture behind each dish. He was so passionate about the cuisine and restaurant that we decided to leave our dinner experience entirely up to him - and boy were we glad we did! He brought out some of the best dishes on the menu - many of which we wouldn’t have ordered ourselves as we tend to pertain to our usuals. We started off with Stuffed Vine leaves which were served warm and were super comforting; followed by the Cretan Dakos which is made from aged bread and a fabulous tomato and leafy greens with feta cheese! Nikos explained that historically, the Greek would bake bread once a week and sun dry to preserve it so it would hold onto its flavour and become a crispy and nutritious addition to salads and various dishes. It was genuinely delicious! The best dish of the night for us was the ‘Seafood Kritharoto’ which was a delight to the taste buds. A medley of octopus, calamari and shrimp in a delectable orzo pasta - even my husband who never orders seafood couldn’t stop eating it! For dessert there was braised peach served with ice cream on a bed of crushed walnuts; it was absolutely perfect! The Chocolate blueberry cake was delectable and devoured in seconds! The Life Goddess stands out from any other Greek restaurant I have been to; each and every dish felt like it had been made with love and attention using the highest quality ingredients. (Seriously, even the salad tomatoes felt like they had been imported from Greece). Our dinner ended with a resolve to make a trip to Crete as soon as Covid ends - so we could eat food like this every single day! All in all a wonderful experience at The Life Goddess.
